Top 10 FAQs

  • First steps for troubleshooting
  • Notes on Caller ID (CID)

By default, the number of the caller is shown in the display of your Gigaset telephone. You do not have to make any other settings on your Gigaset telephone. However, if the caller's number is not displayed, this can be due to the following:

    - You have not ordered CID from your network provider or
    - Your telephone is connected through a PBX that does not transmit all information.

Is your telephone connected through a PBX/gateway?
You can establish this by checking for an additional device connected between your telephone and house connection, e.g., a PBX, gateway etc.
In most cases, simply resetting this device will remedy the situation:
    - Briefly disconnect the power plug of your PBX.
    - Re-insert the plug and wait for the device to restart.

If the caller number is still not displayed:
Check the CID settings of your PBX and activate this function if necessary. In the user guide for the device, search for the term "CID" (or an alternative term such as "phone number transmission", "caller ID", ..).

If necessary, contact the device manufacturer. If this does not resolve the problem, it is possible that your network provider does not support the CID service for this number.

Have you ordered the CID service from your network provider?
Check whether your provider supports Caller ID (CID) and that the function has been activated for you. If necessary, contact your provider.

  • Which possibilities do I have with external call forwarding?

If call forwarding is configured, it is activated at the provider exchange. Both telephone lines assigned to your ISDN connection are free during call forwarding.

You can define the following conditions for call forwarding:

Immediately - On busy - On no reply

  • What are the system requirements?

Your system must meet at least the following requirements for installing talk&surf. You

should also comply with the Microsoft Corporation recommendations for your Windows

    operating system.

    Minimum PC hardware requirements
    • IBM AT compatible Pentium II with 200 MHz
    • 64 MB RAM 95 MB free hard disk memory

  • Is it possible to use the Gigaset HC450 with the Gigaset SX353 ISDN?

No, this is not possible. The Gigaset SX353 ISDN does not support the needed protocol. It is not possible to upgrade to this function with a newer firmware.

  • What is meant by Night service?

With the night service feature you can configure timed call forwarding, e.g. to divert calls to a private telephone outside office hours. In the same way as external call forwarding, only MSNs that the relevant handset has configured as an incoming MSN can be forwarded externally. If the night service is already activated, it must be deactivated again in order to alter the forwarding destination.

  • What is the meaning of "Bluetooth"?

Bluetooth (King 'Bluetooth' from Denmark, who set up the first friendship with Norway) is a cheap standard for a fast and wireless transmission (Frequence 2.4 Ghz) of voice and data between different electrical devices like Notebooks, PDA´s (Personal Digital Assistant), printer and mobile phones over a distance of up to 10 meters.

Bluetooth signals have no preferred direction and can be received by any devices/participant within the transmission range. Bluetooth devices recognize each other automatically

  • What do I have to take into account basically running my device with Bluetooth?
    • You can only have two Bluetooth connections at the same time
    • if you phone via GSM phone or headset, a DUN (Dial Up Networking) connection is not possible.
    • if you set up an additional voice connection during an active DUN connection, the transfer rate decreases.
    • you cannot run a DECT data connection (via USB adapter DECT/M105/M101) and a Bluetooth data connection parallel.
    • if a Bluetooth mobile phone is within the range of a Gigaset base (Bluetooth Icon visible), and a Bluetooth data connection is activated at the same time, you cannot start the Bluetooth registration process.
  • How is a doorbell connection signalized?

    • Bluetooth
      • Can I send/receive faxes via Bluetooth?

No, faxing is only possible via the USB interface of the base station or with a wireless adapter. While faxing with a wireless connection, the running time of the signals can cause problems during the fax transmission.

      • How can I setup an Online / Modem connection via Bluetooth?

        Requirement for the

online / modem connection is a “ready to use” Bluetooth adapter. For the

Bluetooth adapter you have to setup the Dial up Networking Service. If you have

further questions regarding Bluetooth Adapter’s configuration ask the

manufacturer. After the  installation of the adaptor, there should be a

Bluetooth modem available on your computer. Basically, it is possible to make an

online connection without installing any Gigaset Software. Alternatively, it is

possible to make a connection with our delivered WAN drivers (The WAN drivers

will be installed automatically with the Talk&Surf 6 Software or with the

Capi). Below we describe both possibilities.

        • Enable the registration mode of the Gigaset base station (compare the manual ”Registering a Bluetooth device”).

        • Click on “Start” – “Settings” – “Control Panel” – “Network Connections”. Select the option “Create a new connection” and follow the dialog.

        • Under “Network Connection Type” select the option ”Connect to the Internet”.

        • Under “Getting Ready” select the option “Set up my connection manually”.

        • Under “Internet Connection” select the option “Connect using dial-up modem”.

        • Under “Select a device” select the preferred modem “ISDN channel – ISDN WAN…” or the Bluetooth modem.

        • Under “Connection Name” enter the internet provider’s name.

        • Under “Phone Number to Dial” enter the Internet service provider’s phone number.

        • Enter the Internet Account Information.

        • Finish the Dialog with „Finish“.

      • How fast is the data rate when accessing the Internet via a Bluetooth connected computer?

The data rate of a computer or PDA connected via Bluetooth is at maximum 64 kBit/s. Theoretically, the data rate of a Bluetooth connection might be up to 723,2 kBit/s, but such a connection is limited by the usage of the ISDN B channel.

A channel bundling via Bluetooth is not possible!

      • How many Bluetooth connections can be used simultaneously?

Theoretically, you can use a voice connection (via GSM mobile phone OR Headset) and 3 data connections (via connected PC’s / PDA’s). It makes sense to have a maximum of 2 connections simultaneously (e.g. 1 x voice/1x data), as there are 2 B Channels provided via the ISDN network.

      • How to connect a mobil phone with a Gigaset SX3x3 ISDN via bluetooth?
      • How to install a SX353 isdn and Talk & Surf 6.0 using a Bluetooth connection (using the Widcomm Installation Wizard)?
      • Is it possible to use a headset and a mobile phone at the same time via Bluetooth?

Basically, it is possible to connect a headset and a mobile phone via Bluetooth at the same time but they cannot be used at the same time at the base station SX 303/353isdn. The mobile has to be set to GSM usage and the headset has to be set to Headset usage – it is not possible to use both profiles at the same time.

      • What Bluetooth performance features does the Gigaset SX 303/353isdn ?

        Register/Deregister Bluetooth Devices

        • a Bluetooth GSM mobile which supports the HF-Profile
        • a Bluetooth Headset
        • max. 3 Bluetooth-PC/PDA which support SP- / DUN-Profiles (Serial Port Profile / Dial Up Networking Profile)

        Bluetooth Mode

        • alternatively you can run a GSM mobile phone or headset (via menu selection)

        Twin Concept

        • incoming calls via the GSM Network will be signalized, received and forwarded due to their configuration at the DECT portable handsets and at the Comfort handsets. CLIP information will be transferred as well.
        • Subscriber of the base station can make calls via the GSM network.

        Headset usage

        • An incoming / outgoing call at the comfort handset can be made via the Bluetooth headset. Forwarding from or to a headset can be performed during the call via menu (Menu --> Transf. to headset ).

        • Range up to 10 m within buildings
        • Range up to 30 m outside (intervisibility)

        Approved for Bluetooth version 1.1

        • Only Bluetooth devices approved to 1.1 or 1.0B (restricted) cooperate with Heidelberg
      • What are the advantages of a Bluetooth base station?

To use a DECT/Bluetooth base station offers the advantage that you can use only one phone, e.g. the S1 or SL1 handset for incoming and outgoing calls. It is also irrelevant if the call is coming from the GSM network or not. To differentiate an incoming GSM call from a fixed line call you can also allocate a different ringer tone for GSM calls.

Furtheron you can place the GSM mobile phone at any place in a house having sufficient network reception. No call will be missed anymore and there is no need of calling the mailbox. You can make your calls via the DECT handset as well.

      • What are the preconditions for using a Bluetooth device at the SX 303/353isdn?

To provide a smooth handling of different devices at the Gigaset Sx 303/353isdn it is necessary to comply with the Bluetooth specification 1.1.

To support voice calls it should also support the "Handsfree" profile.

For these and more information please have a look at the manual of your Bluetooth device or contact your dealer.

      • What can I do if I face problems trying to register Bluetooth devices?
        • Please make sure that you do not connect a Bluetooth device while another one is already connected and activated!
        • If the registration port of the GSM phone or headset is already in use you will get a message telling that the registration is aborted. In this case you have to release the port by deregistration of the device.
        • A direct re-registration as with DECT devices is not possible. Bluetooth devices have to be deregistered and registered again!
        • If the registration takes an unusually long time or if the registration is not possible after some tries you should disconnect the Gigaset from power supply.
      • What do I have to take into account basically running my device with Bluetooth?
        • You can only have two Bluetooth connections at the same time
        • if you phone via GSM phone or headset, a DUN (Dial Up Networking) connection is not possible.

      • Why does the Bluetooth symbol disappear temporarily when connected to my mobile phone?

The Bluetooth icon on the display of the Gigaset SX3X3isdn indicates an existing Bluetooth connection. If this icon is temporarily not displayed, the reason for this may be: the mobile is outside the Bluetooth range, the battery capacity of the mobile phone is too low and/or the firmware version of the Gigaset.

In the last case, please carry out a firmware upgrade of your Gigaset.

With these driver (available on the product under “gigaset-usb-adapter”) a modem for the particular interface will be installed. Basically, we recommend to use the WAN driver.
        • With Gigaset Base stations and Bluetooth interface it is possible to make a connection with an additional Bluetooth adapter. It is not necessary to install the Talk&Surf or the Capi for an online connection
      • How can I setup an Online / Modem connection via Bluetooth?

Requirement for the online / modem connection is a “ready to use” Bluetooth adapter. For the Bluetooth adapter you have to setup the Dial up Networking Service. If you have further questions regarding Bluetooth Adapter’s configuration ask the manufacturer. After the  installation of the adaptor, there should be a Bluetooth modem available on your computer.

Basically, it is possible to make an online connection without installing any Gigaset Software. Alternatively, it is possible to make a connection with our delivered WAN drivers (The WAN drivers will be installed automatically with the Talk&Surf 6 Software or with the Capi).

In such a program the configuration is done via the menu. In case of trouble or questions to any method please contact your bank.

      • Is it possible to increase the range of the Gigaset M34 USB, USB Adapter DECT, M105 or M101 with the Gigaset Repeater?

No, the Repeater is just for telephony mode. It is not possible to set up a data connection with the Repeater.

      • Is it possible to make multiple data connections at the same time?

Yes, this is possible via different communication media. Data connections are possible with USB cable and DECT connection and for Bluetooth devices (Gigaset SX303 and 353) with USB Cable and Bluetooth. A DECT and Bluetooth connection at the same time is not possible.

      • Is it possible to use both ISDN channels (Channel bundling) for a data connection at the same time?

Yes, a channel bundling via the USB interface is possible. You can only use one ISDN channel if you want to make a DECT or Bluetooth (wireless) data connection.

      • Is it possible to use more than one Gigaset M34 USB, USB Adapter DECT, M105 or M101 at one base station?

Yes, you can register as much data adapters as handsets. Please note, that every registered data adapter reduces the space for the handsets.

      • Is there a possibility to check the online status?

We recommend to check the online status by the dial up network of your computer. At some base stations or handsets it is only shown that there is an active connection or not. Some models don’t support this feature. Additionally, the current status is shown in the Capi Monitor.

      • What do I need to set up an online connection with the device?

You need a base station and a computer with USB interface. For a wireless DECT connection you additionally need a Gigaset M34 USB, Gigaset M101, M105 or an USB Adapter DECT. You need a Bluetooth adapter for Bluetooth devices to have an additionally wireless Bluetooth connection.
