Collection, processing, and use of personal data by Gigaset

When setting up the MobileDock app, we collect the following personal information and/or require access to the following data:

  • Information regarding Bluetooth status (on/off)
  • Names and Bluetooth addresses of all linked devices
  • Address book
  • Wi-Fi connection data

We collect the data directly from the smartphone when setting up the MobileDock app: As soon as the MobileDock app is opened, it determines the relevant data via the interface provided by your smartphone’s operating system. Every time an incoming call is received, the name associated with the phone number will be retrieved via Bluetooth on the smartphone.

Once the MobileDock app has been set up, the Bluetooth address of your MobileDock is stored for the duration the MobileDock app is installed—this enables an immediate connection to be established between the app (smartphone) and MobileDock every time the app is started again. The address of the MobileDock is stored in the MobileDock app.

Information on the Bluetooth status is required to notify the user that a Bluetooth connection must be established so that the MobileDock app can be used (if Bluetooth is deactivated), and to enable a functional check to be performed on the MobileDock app. The list of all linked devices is required to assist you with the installation and setup of the necessary Bluetooth connection. MobileDocks require access to the address book on your smartphone in order to assign and display the appropriate name for an incoming call. Access to your smartphone’s network connection is required to enable the Gigaset update server to be contacted for carrying out firmware updates.

The MobileDock app also enables firmware updates to be carried out for the firmware of linked MobileDocks. For this, we require access to your smartphone’s network connection (cellular data or Wi-Fi).

Each time you use the MobileDock app (i.e., each time a Bluetooth connection is successfully established between the MobileDock app and the MobileDock), the update server performs a version comparison of the software on the MobileDock and that on the update servers to determine whether there is a new MobileDock firmware version. During this process, the “MobileDock” product name, the current software version, and the Bluetooth address of the MobileDock are transferred and stored.

When a firmware update is being carried out, the update servers transfer and store the “MobileDock” product name, the current software version, and the Bluetooth address of the MobileDock.

Depending on the system, the update server also stores the requesting IP address and the time stamp for each server request.

Every time a MobileDock firmware update is carried out, information regarding the cellular data or Wi-Fi connection is sent to the update server:

During firmware updates, an HTTP connection is established between the MobileDock app and the update servers to determine whether there is updated firmware. If this is the case, the MobileDock initiates an HTTP connection between itself and the update server. In this process, the MobileDock uses the “tethering/personal hotspot” function of the smartphone and the cellular data or Wi-Fi connection of the smartphone. This connection is used to download the software package onto the MobileDock; the connection is then closed.

All connection data collected as part of a firmware update is stored on the update server for one year following the update and is then deleted.
