The new Gigaset A540 CAT: Handset to complement DECT routers based on CAT-iq

Munich, March 19, 2015: Modern broadband routers, such as the Speedports from the W 723V, W 724V and W 921V series, the o2 Homebox 2, the VR200v from TP-Link or other CAT-iq 2.0-certified devices, have integrated DECT base stations. The new Gigaset A540 CAT enables this preinstalled function to be used and therefore permits cordless convenience. The handset, which won the Red Dot Design Award, comes in the tried-and-proven Gigaset quality “Made in Germany” and so is a fully-fledged alternative to the system handsets of network operators.

Up to now, end customers had little choice when they wanted to complement DECT-capable routers based on the CAT-iq standard with suitable handsets. They had to make do with what network providers offered. Gigaset remedies that with the A540 CAT handset and now offers tried-and-proven Gigaset convenience "Made in Germany" in conjunction with routers that are currently used in switching from fixed-line to IP-based connections.

Brilliant voice quality in Internet telephony as well
Brilliant voice quality (HD voice) is essential in Internet telephony and is supported by CAT-iq-capable routers and the Gigaset A540 CAT – including in handsfree mode. Depending on the ambient noise or personal preferences, five volume levels can be chosen for the earpiece and handsfree function with a separate loudspeaker in the handset.

Numbers and names are shown on the display when calls are received (CLIP/CNIP). The Gigaset A540 CAT also recognizes call lists and the central phone book in the router and hence enables persons in them to be called back directly. The Gigaset A540 CAT ensures excellent legibility with an illuminated, high-contrast 1.8” graphic display – and shows the numbers in particularly large form during dialing. The practical handset can be used to control a network answering machine of the provider quickly and easily; with some router models, users even have access to a local answering machine.

Peace from unwanted callers
Users who do not want to be disturbed can deactivate the ringtone. This is done by a timer in day/night mode. Calls from VIP contacts are still enabled so that family and friends can call at any time. Upon request, anonymous calls are also only indicated visually by the call button lighting up and in the display.

The Gigaset A540 CAT (RRP €39.99) will go on sale in the housing variant anthracite/black as of April 2015. The white variant of the Gigaset A540 CAT is already offered as a supplementary handset to the o2 Homebox2 in the o2 web shop. Gigaset A540 CAT has been developed to complement CAT-iq routers and only caters for basic functions on conventional DECT base stations. Prices and timing related to Germany.
