Gigaset Maxwell 10 – the next chapter in business telephony

Munich, March 10, 2014 – One of the highlights at this year’s CeBIT was the Maxwell 10, a groundbreaking, Android-based HD video telephone for business customers which Gigaset presented to the general public. The Maxwell 10 inspires communication and interactivity with functions that cannot be found on any other office phone. Powerful apps, simple retrieval of information and access to internal libraries and databases make the Maxwell 10 an extremely powerful desktop tool.

Starting midyear 2014, the Maxwell 10 provides business customers and entrepreneurs with an innovative, IP-based 10.1” HD video telephone with a touch screen, different cordless handsets (optional) and the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system. The phone is aimed at users wanting to leverage the advantages of state-of-the-art added-value functions in a business context. These functions primarily include cloud-based company address books, e-mail accounts or CRM files which can be linked to the Maxwell 10 and are enriched by telephony features developed by Gigaset (use of up to 12 SIP accounts, auto-provisioning and Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) with a 2-port switch and integrated Power over Ethernet (PoE)).

Innovative touch interface
The Maxwell 10 uses Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). This Android version is faster, more intuitive and more secure than ever before. It offers smart alarm functions, new widgets and a customizable start screen that you can configure quickly and easily by drag & drop. Flexible and dynamic paging through all the phone’s functions and operating options is also supported. The Maxwell 10 makes communication come alive thanks to the great clarity of the realistic HD display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels. With more than a million pixels, it can display images and text in extremely sharp crispness and enables life-like video calls in HD.

Tailor-made business apps
The Maxwell 10 is positioned clearly in the premium segment. The completely newly developed operating concept means that telephony processes that used to be complex, such as forwarding of several simultaneous calls, have never been so easy. Compatibility and interoperability are further strengths of the Maxwell 10: Apart from the internal address book with space for some 10,000 entries, company address books can be integrated via LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) and, as customary with Android phones, directories of well-known online providers can also be synchronized. In addition, the Maxwell 10 offers access to more than 975,000 apps on Google Play™ to cater for every conceivable professional requirement.

Crystal-clear telephony, pin-sharp video calls
The Maxwell 10 has three built-in loudspeakers (bass plus two tweeters) for top HD sound in HDSP™ broadband quality. The integrated microphone at the front and the extra-large sound reflex box of the base station enable handsfree calls in brilliant full-duplex sound quality. Headsets can also be connected quickly and easily using the DECT, USB EHS/DHSG or standard RJ-9 jack. As a result, the Maxwell 10 offers an incredibly clear audio experience.

The integrated video camera at the top front is equipped with a status LED and permits video telephony in HD quality (720p/30fps) without the need for additional equipment such as a video telephony server. Video conferences in HD quality (720p) with two participants are also possible. For larger groups, an external USB camera with up to 1080p and an external display can also be connected via HDMI. Integration of standardized codecs permits smooth connections to phones and applications from other vendors. Maxwell also supports the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) standard and offers compatibility with many familiar telephone systems and providers.

Professionally designed usability
“With our modular development concept, we have succeeded in creating a premium product for the business segment that can be used in a wide range of different scenarios,” says Hans-Jürgen Huber, Head of Gigaset pro. “With the Maxwell 10, we are launching a new portfolio and dedicated platform for professional desktop phone products. We plan to successively expand this range with various additional sizes.” The modular concept of the Maxwell 10 means it can be used in countless ways – as a panel on the wall or a desktop device with a stand, corded or cordless, in handsfree mode, with a headset or using the handset. The phone’s great usability is rounded out by built-in Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) with a 2-port switch, the integrated WLAN client, Bluetooth® and DECT functions, as well as an SD card slot and USB and HDMI ports.

In terms of its appearance, the Maxwell 10 also offers a wide range of customization options. Apart from the traditional corded handset, a cordless variant can also be used. Both types of handset can be positioned either on the left or right. The handsets come in different designs – from high-quality real leather to a natural wooden decor. A high-quality metal stand ensures a slip-free and secure footing – a small, yet important detail in use of a full-touch phone. Alternatively, Maxwell can be wall-mounted with an optional module, e.g. as an internal communications terminal.
