A durable smartphone: cleaning your mobile phone, screen protection and other care tips

Around 54 million people in Germany* use a smartphone. This means it has become an integral part of everyday life. In addition to keys and a wallet, smartphones are one of the three things that everyone takes with them when they leave the house. No wonder this continuous use leaves its mark. The screen is smeared and the connections collect dust. Here are five tips on how to clean your smartphone properly and extend its service life:

Cleaning your mobile phone with disinfectant spray

Dirt and countless bacteria collect on the screen. This is a health risk, especially during the season for colds. Regularly cleaning the screen with disinfectant spray kills the bacteria, preventing them from being transferred. Do not use harsh detergents to clean the screen, as they can damage the touchscreen function over the long term.

Cleaning the casing and gaps in your smartphone

Dirt and dust can gather in particular in the headphone and charging cable inputs. In the inner housing, too. The only solution is to clean them all thoroughly. You can use a toothpick and cotton swab to get to hard-to-reach areas. It is also possible to use special covers to protect the ports. Remember: Do not use water to clean your mobile phone!

Buying screen protector and protective cases for your smartphone

The screen is the weak link in many smartphones: It can break if you drop your phone or be scratched by dirt. It is therefore recommended to kit your smartphone with a robust booklet case and screen protector. Protective cases and screen protectors are available in different sizes and shapes, depending on the model of smartphone.

Extending the battery life

Less is more: This is the most important care tip for your smartphone battery. In other words, a permanent state of charge between 30% and 70% is ideal; this charge state increases the service life of lithium-ion batteries. Permanent and high charge states, as well as high temperatures, result in irreversible damage. It is better to charge your phone several times for a short period of time than to leave it charging for hours, such as overnight. Here are more tips to make your smartphone battery last longer.

Caution is the best protection

Seemingly trivial yet important: If you are careful with your smartphone, the longer you will have it. It is quite simple. Do not place the phone the screen-side down. Dust and dirt can cause scratches. A protective case is recommended if you keep your device in a handbag or backpack.
