New firmware for the N670 and N870 IP PRO DECT base stations
Gigaset is integrating the Teams SIP gateway in its single- and multi-cell systems. A new firmware release makes the N670 and N870 IP PRO DECT base stations fully compatible with Teams. Gigaset is thus bringing its cordless Professional handsets together with the unified communications solution from Microsoft. Users can conveniently control the most important functions of Teams using the handset’s hardware buttons. The base stations can be configured quickly and easily by means of auto-provisioning.
Gigaset’s single- and multi-cell systems will work together with the Teams collaboration platform in future. “Teams is the state-of-the-art solution for the hybrid world of work,” says Rudi Stahl, Senior Business and Solutions Manager at Gigaset. “We will also enable communication via Teams with our DECT installations. In doing so, we are aiding the technology transformation in the professional arena.” The Gigaset N670 IP PRO DECT base station supports up to 20 handsets and has been developed for small enterprises. The N870 IP PRO can be used to set up a DECT roaming network for up to 20,000 cordless handsets covering the whole company campus. Our systems permit access to the Teams SIP gateway with the new firmware. That means the call functionality can be used on our DECT devices,” adds Stahl. “We bring together the best of the two communication worlds.”
Fixed-line network and unified communications on one device
Users can make calls as usual to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) from the DECT handsets. Communication over Microsoft Teams or Skype for Business is also possible via the SIP gateway. The connection is established either to another SIP device or to a business client application. The N670 and N870 IP PRO DECT base stations act as the Teams endpoint. Incoming calls are forked to the user’s handset.
With DECT handsets such as the Gigaset SL800H PRO, S700H PRO or R700H PRO, calls can be toggled or conferenced. If the “Do Not Disturb” function is set on the device, it will remain silent without that affecting the user’s status on any other Team endpoints. Calls can be put on hold, resumed or muted. Users can listen to their voicemails, while notifications alert them when they have new voicemail messages. The devices support signing into and out of Teams. Participation in Teams meetings is possible by entering the meeting access number directly on the handset. And it goes without saying that the devices send DTMF tones via the number keys to provide input during interactive voice response calls.
Autoprovisioning makes configuration simple
The DECT base stations configure themselves automatically and the handsets are registered manually once, after which calls can be made and received. A Microsoft Teams Calling Plan is required for external calls. You can find details and instructions on this page in the Gigaset PRO Public Wiki. Microsoft officially announced SIP gateway support for Gigaset DECT devices at Enterprise Connect 2023. The compatible devices are listed here.
