Small and foldable: The Gigaset GL590

Mobile phone for seniors with an SOS button, large display and speaking keypad

Want to tell someone quickly that the doctor’s appointment is taking a little longer or send birthday greetings by SMS? The handy foldable Gigaset GL590 gives senior citizens new flexibility and, following the GL390, adds a further model to the particularly user-friendly Gigaset life series. It’s the perfect mobile phone for mobile telephony and SMSs, boasting practical extras like the speaking keypad, an SOS button and extra-long standby time without the need for recharging.

Being able to be reached by phone while shopping, writing an SMS or even taking a snapshot – flexibility and mobility are more important than ever for the elderly. And the assurance that older, yet still active family members can be contacted at all times gives their family security. Gigaset now offers the new GL590, a further mobile phone tailored specifically to the needs of seniors. When closed, it is 10.9 cm small and handy, yet impresses with its 2.8-inch color display when folded open. The integrated camera lets users take photos and record memories anywhere. The device, with its elegant titanium silver look, fits perfectly into the Gigaset life series – a broad portfolio of phones and now also mobile phones with ergonomics and functions geared toward elderly users or people with impaired eyesight, hearing or sense of touch.

“The new GL590 is our second mobile phone for seniors after the Gigaset GL390 – and you can choose whether you prefer a foldable phone or a normal one,” says Anne Dickau, SVP Products at Gigaset. “The two mobile phones for seniors are equal in every way to our landline phones in terms of looks and quality. We felt it was important to create a foldable phone – despite its compactness when closed, the GL590 offers a large display and a generous keypad when open. That means a lot more convenience.”

Stay in touch at all times even in old age
Gigaset has made sure that the GL590 is simple and uncomplicated to use, especially for elderly users: It boasts hearing aid compatibility and the volume of calls and the ringtone can be set to be particularly loud. The large color display and extra-large keys are easy to read. The voice announcement feature also helps when a number is dialed: Each digit chosen is read out loud after the key has been pressed. This acoustic feedback makes things a lot easier for people with impaired vision. The mobile phone can be used with two SIM cards simultaneously thanks to the dual SIM slot, and the internal memory can be expanded by up to 32 GB with a memory card. The 800-mAh battery is simple to charge using the charging station that comes with the device. Since the main focus is on telephony and messaging functions, the battery has an extremely long life, offering 9 hours of talk time and up to 550 hours on standby.

SOS button ensures security
Apart from enhancing mobility, Gigaset also aimed to give users a greater sense of security by adding an SOS button with the prominent color orange to the Gigaset GL590. It is located on the rear and is quick and easy to access, even when the phone is closed. Five numbers can be stored as emergency contacts. They are contacted one after the other when the SOS button is pressed – until one of the persons called picks up the phone. There are also three speed dial keys (A, B, C), enabling users to summon help quickly in an emergency without having to search at length for the right number.

The Gigaset GL590 goes on sale at retailers and in the Gigaset online shop at the RRP of €69.99 as of the end of September 2019.
